"It was as if Simon had become my nightlight; even when he wasn't with me, he was illuminating the world so that I no longer feared it."

Seventeen-year-old Vanessa Sands is afraid of everything—the dark, heights, the ocean—but her fearless older sister, Justine, has always been there to coach her through every challenge. That is, until Justine goes cliff-diving one night near the family’s vacation house in Maine, and her lifeless body washes up on shore the next day. Though her parents hope that they’ll be able to find closure back in Boston, Vanessa can’t help feeling that her sister’s death wasn’t an accident. After discovering that Justine was keeping a lot of secrets, Vanessa returns to Winter Harbor, hoping that Justine’s boyfriend might know more. But Caleb has been missing since Justine’s death. Soon, it’s not just Vanessa who’s afraid. All of Winter Harbor is abuzz with anxiety when another body washes ashore, and panic sets in when the small town becomes host to a string of fatal, water-related accidents in which all the victims are found, horrifically, grinning from ear to ear. Vanessa turns to Caleb’s brother, Simon, for help, and begins to find herself drawn to him. As the pair try to understand the sudden rash of creepy drownings, Vanessa uncovers a secret that threatens her new romance—and will change her life forever. (goodreads.com)

Wow, this book was great. I love the Idea of the Siren as the villain in this book. It is such a different concept then the norm that is popping up right now.

Vanessa is scared of everything, the dark, the water, heights and things that go bump in the night. Justine is fearless, she is strong, outgoing and is loved by everyone. Justine has always looked after Vanessa, made sure she was protected from the world. Vanessa wishes she could be more like her big sister but doesn't know how. Then suddenly Justine dies and Vanessa's world is turned up-side-down. She finds out that she doesn't know her sister as well as she thought she did. So she goes back to where it happened to find answers, and what she finds is nothing she ever expected.

I really love Vanessa's character, she thinks of her self as an average girl who is scared of everything. Now she has to go back to Winter Harbor and figure out what Justine was doing before her death she grows as a character. She is without her big sister, her protector and now she must do things on her own.
Simon is also an interesting character. Him and Vanessa have a life long friendship and now that she has to stand on her own two feet and make her own choices, she realizes that he is more then just a friend.

As Vanessa and Simon search for answers they stumble onto more then they bargained for.
I love the way that Siren had me guessing from the very beginning to the very last page. The story had tons of twists and turns, and had moments that surprised me very much.

Overall I give it 5 Hoots! I loved Siren, It was a fast-pace story with a lot of plot twists and even a little romance. I can't wait to read the sequel and find out what happens. I have quite a few unanswered questions.
I recommend Siren to anyone who loves a good fast pace read that will keep you guessing up until the end. With good characters and a great plot, Siren is one of the great books of this year.
